Short Biography

MATTHIAS WALSCHBURGER

Matthias Walschburger is a civil engineer with over 35 years of experience specializing in sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, and corrosion protection industries. He retired as Business Director of Global Projects at Knight Material Technologies in early 2026 and now works as an independent consultant. His career includes roles in marketing, sales management, and structural engineering across multiple countries, and he holds degrees and registrations in Colombia and Germany, with expertise in chemical plant maintenance, structural design, and construction of industrial facilities.

Matthias Walschburger retired from Knight Material Technologies at the beginning of 2026 and is now beginning a career as an independent consultant, supporting companies in the sulfuric and phosphoric acid industries, as well as assisting international companies in these fields and the corrosion protection industries.

He was the Business Director of Global Projects for Knight Material Technologies LLC until the beginning of 2026. He joined the company at the beginning of 2010 as marketing manager for Latin America and was sent to Chile for three years to set up the company’s office in Santiago. Before coming to the USA in 2005 as a structural engineer for Axis Design, NJ, and PE Structural, TX, he worked for Steuler in Germany as Latin American Sales Manager and Technical Director for Steuler’s subsidiary in Spain.

Mr. Walschburger holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with a major in Structural/Foundation Engineering from Universidad de Los Andes, Bogota, Colombia, and is a registered engineer in both Colombia and Germany.  Additionally, he completed several Business Administration courses at Universidad de Los Andes to enhance his management skills.

He was the Global SME for Sulfuric Acid & Surface Protection with over 35 years of experience in sulfuric acid and chemical plant maintenance, injection of process towers, process tower lining design, structural analysis, and the design of steel and concrete structures for industrial, residential, and commercial facilities. His work includes non-ferrous metal recovery plants, acid production plants, paper manufacturing facilities, as well as pre-stressed concrete and steel bridges, foundation design for buildings, deep excavation shoring, and tunnel plus tunnel lining design.
